Did you Know? Identical twins share a lot of things in common, and here's one more. If one twin is missing a tooth because it failed to grow in (such as a wisdom tooth), chances are good that the same tooth will be missing in the other twin. But despite their similarities, identical twins still have different "dental fingerprints." Every person, whether singleton or twin, has a set of teeth as unique as his or her fingerprints. ------------------------------------------------------------- In the days before the Tooth Fairy, children in England and Australia would drop their first baby tooth into a mouse hole in the belief it would keep them free from toothache. We don't know if that tradition is related to the ancient Egyptian remedy for tooth pain. They would apply a freshly killed mouse to an aching tooth to end the pain. Eeeeek! ------------------------------------------------------------- In the late 1800s, New York dentist Pearl Grey decided to try his hand at writing. Undaunted when no one wanted to publish his first book, he published it himself in 1904. The book gained critical success. The dentist closed his practice, adopted the pen name Zane Grey and ultimately became one of America's best-known and prolific authors of Westerns. Grey wrote more than 60 books, including Riders of the Purple Sage, which sold 2 million copies and was filmed three times. ------------------------------------------------------------- |
